The work of Swedish architect Bernt Nyberg is featured in this monographic issue, which focuses especially on his formative projects from the 1960s and Æ70s. A huge endeavour in the making, the research, documentation, and production of materials for this publication have lasted four years. Given the relatively unknown nature of NybergÆs work, the narratives herein are derived from direct sources, either through archival research or interviews with the architectÆs surviving collaborators. Matthew Hall headed the investigation into NybergÆs currently endangered body of work in Sweden, which ranges from homes and row houses to administrative, care, and maintenance facilities.

This special issue introduces the details in 37 recent projects by Japanese architects, with the aim of examining the spatiality of architecture that emerges. Each project is described by its architect, who relates how the intentions of design are instilled in the details. The works are then more physically presented with detail drawings, in which the traces of the architectÆs hand remains, as well as photographs of their realisation. Included in the range of featured buildings are shops, museums, houses, sports facilities, and more. Among these are works by Shigeru Ban, Jun Aoki, Atelier Bow-Wow, FT Architects, Toyo Ito, Kazuyo Sejima, Kengo Kuma, and many others.

As recent technological advancement became more and more pervasive and sophisticated, its consequences became more dramatically evident. In this context, design takes on a new relevance, in organizing and managing spaces, individuals, relations and ultimately societies. But if this is clear, several questions have to be answered: Who is driving it, who are the participants, who are sitting around the table? Does spatial design currently have a say in this, and if not, how can it participate and intervene? Issue 51 comes in a new design by Irma Boom Office.

Taking examples from major European cities, this book is a practical guide to demonstrating what urban development with a human face might look like. This involves renewing and enhancing humane cities using architecture on a human scale while taking their history into account. Thus the book follows the tradition established by Jan Gehl that regards urban space as a framework for people to live in and socialise.

Getting lost in the city is not about throwing away the map. It´s about surrendering yourself to the essence of the place. The sights, smells, flavors and sounds that make it unique. The photography, the art, the creativity that provide its individual inspiration. Getting lost is diving headfirst into what makes each city its own.
