Organized geographically and illustrated with global, sub-regional and city maps, the buildings are easily located. The book contains over 1,000 buildings including 50 new projects, each of which is illustrated with a single image and accompanied by a brief description, with addresses, websites and telephone numbers.

This housing construction design manual documents and analyzes some 130 international residential structures from the last fifty years. From the standardized floor plans of the 1960s to the more individual concepts of the 1980s and the changed requirements and housing types of recent years, example by the detailed typological description of the relevant housing types. Every project is presented with its typical floor plans to a scale of 1:200; sections, site plans, and photographs illuminate each building s structure and situation. In addition to incorporating some forty new projects, this new edition now contains figure-ground diagrams that highlight the most salient features of the floor plans, making them even easier to compare.

This atlas will change the way we look at geography. By using a combination of computer-generated maps and various types of demographic information, the maps, called cartograms, alter the size of the countries of the world to represent more or less of whatever the map is showing. For example, on the ôExports of Machineryö map, western European countries and Japan are shown as very large areas because they are the main net exporters in terms of dollar value of exports per person per year. All the other countries of the world are slivers of color, or completely disappear. Some 366 different cartograms are grouped under 16 topics, among them ôNatural Resources and Energy,ö ôWealth and Poverty,ö ôHousing and Education,ö and ôWar and Crime.ö Users can easily see where in the world are the most forests loss, the most patents granted, the most books published, the highest number of road deaths, and the most birds at risk, just to name a few examples.
